# Equations with variables on both sides

- Simple example:
- Start with equation \(5a + 3 = 2a + 9\)
- Subtract 3 from both sides, so you have \(5a = 2a + 6\)
- Subtract \(2a\) from both sides, so you have \(3a = 6\)
- Divide both sides by 3, so you are left with \(a = 2\)
