Anime

Until October of last year (2023), I had basically never watched anime. Okay, that's not entirely true. I watched a few Dragon Ball movies in elementary school, and I tried to watch Death Note in middle school (couldn't find it on YouTube though, so I gave up quickly). Nonetheless, I thought myself superior to other people for not watching anime. I snorted with derision every time one of my friends talked about the latest chapter of One Punch Man or the latest episode of One Piece, looking down at all of the clueless weebs that surrounded me

But in October of last year (2023), I started watching Attack of Titan. I won't lie, I had to force myself through it. To say that I disliked it would be an overstatement but it certainly didn't live upto the high expectations I had when going into it. Maybe that's on me but if AoT was peak anime I definitely wasn't missing out on much.

I gave anime another chance though, with One Punch Man. I'd caught a few glimpses of it in middle school when my elder brother watched it so I didn't think it would disappoint me like AoT. It didn't. I loved season 1, and I liked season 2 a lot too. I don't get why season 2 gets all the hate it does. But then again, I hadn't read the manga so I couldn't spot any problems with the pacing or the adaption of the story. And this was my second anime so I had nothing to compare the animation quality with. I still think it was more than good enough though.

I watched Dragon Ball Classic after that. Took a few months, but I liked it enough to watch another anime. I think I watched a few slice of life anime (Barakamon, Handa-kun, etc) before I discovered Hyouka.

It is the best anime I've ever watched. Granted, I've watched less than 30 anime so far (as of February 2024), but I don't think I'll ever watch anything that tops it, at least in the next couple of years (see [1]). It is one of 2 anime that I consider to be 10/10.

I'll talk about everything else later (hopefully tomorrow!). I need to sleep now, it's already 10:27 PM here in Mumbai and I still need to start my journal entry (which usually takes around 40 minutes). Plus, I have one of my IGCSEs tomorrow (see [2], the exam I'm appearing for is Environmental Management). Wish me luck!

If you need to contact me, see my index page. Thanks. I'll finish the internal links later ([1], [2], etc). Yeah, I'm addicted to Hacker News, how'd you know?

I'm back. Its 10:16 AM right now, and I have to leave home around 11:30 to reach school in time for my exam. I really should be studying right now but oh well

Anyways, Hyouka was good enough that I didn't give up on anime even when I watched a lot of stuff that would otherise have put me off.

I watched Bunny Girl Senpai, which I liked quite a bit. I do hate harems though. I watched all 3 seasons of Teasing Master Takagi-san (and the movie!) which I liked very much.

I know people love to hate on Demon Slayer but I actually loved it. Some parts were a bit of a drag but overall I consider it to be a well-made anime. Which I guess doesn't mean much coming from someone who started watching anime 4 months ago.

I watched Chainsaw Man in December, I think. I didn't like it very much, it disappointed me a lot since my friends loved to talk about it all the time. I watched a whole bunch of romance anime (including When will Ayumu make his move?, Kubo won't let me be Invisible, etc) some of which I liked a lot. Even now, I think I mostly watch romance anime. I don't watch a lot of anime nowadays though, manga takes up enough of my time as it is (see [3]).

I watched Oregairu, which is the 3rd best anime I've watched so far. Maybe one day I'll read the light novel series as well, who knows. I watched this baseball anime Cross Game, which I guess grew on me. I didn't know the first thing about baseball when I started it but that didn't impact my enjoyment of it at all.

I watched a lot of mid anime, then I ended that streak with Golden Time which is the 2nd best anime I've watched. It is almost as good as Hyouka. I really want to read the light novel series that Hyouka is based on, someday.

I watched a fair bit of anime after that, but nothing that is of enough significance to note down here. Maybe one day I'll make a list here, I'm not all that active on MyAnimeList. I already have a text file of everything I've watched and the corresponding rating, it shouldn't be too hard to document them here.

I need to study now, bye. I'm mostly done with this page, I think. I just need to make sure that all lines have a maximum of 90 characters (like on Paul Graham's website) because in its current state this page looks god awful. My Discord: t3artbus.
