I slip into my business suit--no, "slip" isn't quite the right word. I assemble my business outfit: shirt, tie, pants, jacket, shoes, and yes, socks. The office building is located only eight blocks away from where I live. Looking up from the street, the skyscrapers form an imposing monument to the successes of corporate industry, casting shadows onto the bottom of the concrete forest. Down here, it's impossible to tell the detritivores from the apex predators--but we're the same, really, all plucky businesspeople trying to make a quick buck and create a good life for ourselves. That's human nature for you. And all the better for it! Another day lay ahead of me, behind so many brass door handles and up the big elevator into the heavens. Just breathe, I thought. Think of the future. Think of the opportunities. You've got this.
