Hello gentle reader. I think this webpage will start out as a place to randomly dump thoughts
and links to things I'm interested in at the moment. Perhaps I'll be able to draw order out of that
chaos at some point in the future. Until that day, I'm going to start with the bare minimum: a bulleted list! Ok, two bulleted lists.
To-do list for this website:
- I like the default css from tilde, but I think it's time to start fresh, and pick a new color scheme. I may style this site more like a smol or retro place.
- Flesh out the arch linux page. Maybe bloggify it? I'll be adding to it over time.
- Make a page about newsreaders!
- Make a gemini/gopher page. Maybe also port my content to those platforms here? Maybe automate that too.
Things that I want to flesh out some day:
- Linux: I use Arch, btw. I used to use Gentoo Linux, many years ago, but eventually moved back to Windows on my desktop at home for gaming purposes. With the forcible EoL of Windows 10, and the ever encroaching, and more difficult to disable, telemetry and advertisements in Windows 11, I was finally fed up enough with Windows to try Linux again. Check out my Arch Linux page to read more about that. Spoiler alert: I couldn't be more delighted.
- Usenet: One topic I'm interested in is the current state of gui and tui newsreaders. I'm interested in text groups (not binaries). And it was a challenge to find actively maintained clients these days. I created a page about getting the pan usenet reader to work on Windows. Funnily enough, I use pan on linux now, but I'll keep the guide up in case anyone else may find it useful. For a TUI usenet reader, it's hard to go wrong with slrn. And bonus, for those who switch between these two clients at need: they use the same Score file management, and the Score files are interchangeable. The scoring that they both use (as did the venerable and well-loved Xnews back in the day) is invaluable on modern usenet.
- Gemini? Gopher? Both? Best clients, gui and tui? Searching those spaces, finding community? I'm still exploring this space, so perhaps just documenting what I find on the journey for a bit. My current favorite gemini/gopher browser is Lagrange.
- Amateur radio / HAM and SDR hacking?
- General interests?
