I strongly recommend SimpleX and strongly discourage the use of XMPP if security and privacy are important to you. SimpleX is designed to resist metadata analysis, whereas conventional XMPP deployments are not, even with OMEMO enabled. Additionally, I use my XMPP account both indoors and outdoors, which means that its security and privacy are also exposed to risks from CCTV cameras and potential $5 wrench attacks.
