The Three Sisters

Next year we'll plan a serious vegetable garden. This year we are improvising and planting a few things just to get going and have a few things.

I'm a big fan of zappalito's, a green pumpkin that you harvest when it is still young. It's almost like a round zuchini but it tastes better. Since it is a kind of pumpkin we decided on trying out the classic three sisters: corn, beans and squash.

. I planted this combination in the patch I cleared up yesterday, and also planted 9 extra zappalito plants in a patch of grass next to it, hoping that these plants would cover the grass over the course of the summer, clearing out more bare soil for next years plans.
