linode's having a major outage (ongoing as of writing, over 24 hours in) and my friend runs a site i help out with on one of their servers. we didn't have recent backups so i got really anxious about possible severe data loss considering the situation with linode doesn't look great (it seems like a really bad incident). ...anyway the server magically came back online and i got backups of the whole application and database, i'm so relieved :')

(#z27c4ya) @lyse that's alright haha! i don't expect anyone to listen/watch in full or with full attention bc it's so long lmao the thing with PHP for me is that i... feel like it hits a kind of simplicity that i can understand? it's so plain but can be very powerful. i quite like that. as much as i can learn something infinitely more powerful, PHP hits a comfortable thing where i can handle things like backend sqlite DBs AND how a page is rendered, without requiring a complex frontend with its own quirks (like ruby on rails, which as much as i know and love it, can be heavy). but i totally get you! PHP security is very scary. i'm always worried that i'm messing something up. it's why the [PHP application i'm working on](https://bytes.4-walls.net/kat/toys/src/branch/main/fan) i have dockerized by default for a small but extra layer of protection i'll try to not get discouraged <3 tysm for your advice

slowing working away at my latest code project: learning PHP by recreating the 2000s fandom mainstay known as a fanlisting! it's been super fun i added a dynamic nav bar and other modifications in the [latest commit](https://bytes.4-walls.net/kat/toys/commit/fbdb964ad534fd0172096c5c633c3ec3a8b93b40) fanlistings even to this day rely on old PHP scripts dating back to the early 2000s that need whole ass mySQL or postgres DBs and are incredibly insecure. you can look at them [here](https://gitlab.com/tfl-php-scripts/enthusiast) they're like super jank lol it's sad that new fanlistings have to use them because there's no other options....

gah i've been so busy working on [love4eva](https://www.love4eva.net/)! TL;DR i switched image backends from the test/dev only module i was using to the S3 one, but with a catch - i'm not using S3 or cloud shit!!! i instead got it to work with [minio](https://github.com/minio/minio/), so it's a middle ground between self hosting the image uploads & being compatible with the highly efficient S3 module. i'm super happy with it :) i posted a patreon update that details the changes more: https://www.patreon.com/posts/i-am-now-working-127687614 that post says i didn't update my [guide](https://stash.4-walls.net/selfhostdw/) yet but i actually did like right after i made that post lol so you can ``CTRL+F`` for minio stuff there!

oh out of boredom yesterday i made my blog available via markdown files too so you can use [charmbracelet/glow](https://github.com/charmbracelet/glow) to read them in your terminal :) basically i just set up a file directory on a path of my blog, organized the MD files by year, and so in theory you can navigate to that path and choose a folder, then copy a link to a markdown post and run this: `glow -p https://bubblegum.girlonthemoon.xyz/md/2025/2025-03-31%20premature%20reflections%20on%20sudden%20responsibility.md` and then as long as you have glow installed, you can read my posts from the terminal :D it's so cool

guys omg the people behind [pico.sh](https://pico.sh/) are so nice ;_; one of the people running it emailed me to let me know i had what was likely a malfunctioning (or well, not working as intended) script that was spawning the same SSH tunnel over and over and they wanted to give me a heads up. and i felt SO BAD because i worried i was straining their service or something so i disabled my 4 tunnels (they were serving little SSH games and services) and got back to them. but i just woke up to THE NICEST EMAIL EVER reassuring me that i was actually using it as intended, it was just my script that was having problems, and they even said that if it was intended to work that way it was fine and they just wanted to let me know! so i restarted the tunnels but have since added lockfiles as safeguards so that when the script is run it'll check if it's already running :D

hey yarn pod hosting friends, how do i enable an SMTP relay in the env settings? i'm trying to get a friend on here and i'm pretty sure my env config is good but it won't send emails even after restarts which is strange. i have the right hostname for mailjet, user and pass are in there, same with from address, i'm wondering if the port is messing it up bc it has to send from 587?

i recorded my first camcorder video!!!! it's just me practicing guitar after sooo long of not playing it. my acoustic, to be specific (well, it's an electric acoustic thing but i can play it without plugging it in lol, i do have a stratocaster though). it's capped at ~30 minutes because i used one mini DVD for it and decided i wasn't gonna use another one to extend the run time. so yeah. it was super fun! i hope i can share it soon, i'm ripping the disc with make MKV right now, then i'll re-encode to a web friendly format, and upload to my site and hope that works well

my camcorder battery & mini dvds came in the mail so i did a test recording! it's so cool i love the crap quality. i do hope the memory stick arrives soon though because for the discs i can't get them on my computer (not even a rom drive filesystem mount) without "finalizing" the disc which is like an old camcorder thing. i still think i'll prefer disc recording though even if a limit of 30 minutes (or longer for lower quality) is strict. i like limitations like that
