Stimulus and Response is the triggers that start us down a path
Anger is the prime driver of Stimulus - Catch it, Check it, Change it
Loose the word "need" and "should" - Anger and fear are the same response zones in the brain

SAMHSA's Guiding Principles - Roadmap for New Participants:

  • Your Path
    • Believe Recovery is Possible
    • Accept that you can Change
      • Is "I can't" just your easy answer?
    • What worked for one person may not work for you. Like Spirituality, Philosophy, Cognitive Practice - Totally up to you, there are many path
    • Reflect on your Culture and Values
      • It is difficult to sustain a recovery that contradicts your values
    • Define our own goals - Decide what you want, it's your life
      • Abstinence is always a good choice
  • Identify Resources
    • Recovery can be difficult
    • Very hard to do it alone - Leverage other
    • Find a support group - make a personal support group
    • Learn from others who are further along in their journey
    • Move away from those whose goals don't align with yours
    • Explain to loved ones why it's important that they support your recovery
      • They provide encouragement and motivation.
  • Focus on You
    • We are not our behavior
    • Bad deeds don't make you a bad person
    • Restoring your self-respect is an important part of recovery
    • Refuse stigma and discrimination
    • Set boundaries
    • All humans deserve second, third, 25th chances
      • There is so much misunderstanding around this entire topic of use disorder....fortunately, it's getting better
    • Address Past Traumas - examine these experiences - identify underlying thoughts
    • Find closure on our past to open the door on our future
    • Learn it, love it, live it
    • Take the time that were part of your DOC, use that for the recovery
    • Your recovery needs to come first

Recovery is like this mountain trail that I can never expect how suddenly difficult / easy / slippery it is. But I definitely get a lot of fresh air and seen a lot of beauty along the path ever since I chose to embark on it

;How the light comes - Jan Richardson: I cannot tell you how the light comes. What I know is that it is more ancient than imagining.

That it travels across an astounding expanse to reach us.

That it loves searching out what is hidden, what is lost, what is forgotten or in peril or in pain.

That it has a fondness for the body, for finding its way toward flesh, for tracing the edges of form, for shining forth through the eye, the hand, the heart.

I cannot tell you how the light comes, but that it does. That it will. That it works its way into the deepest dark that enfolds you, though it may seem long ages in coming or arrive in a shape you did not foresee.

And so may we this day turn ourselves toward it. May we lift our faces to let it find us. May we bend our bodies to follow the arc it makes. May we open and open more and open still to the blessed light that comes.

I really don't need to have everything figured out right now.

Don't underestimate the power of closing your eyes and taking a deep breath.

Maybe look at Vitamin D to help on the cloudy days.

End of the week.
